Day 6 - 20 Favourite Things

Well, originally I thought I would be all arsty and try to put my favourite things to the lyrics of "My Favourite Things" from Sound of Music, but it's been a long day and I'm pretty tired, so I will simply list them, with numbers so that I know I got all 20 listed. Day 5 - Favourite Quote

Oh boy, here it is again, another chance to choose A favourite of something. And I would have to again say that I don't have just one favourite quote, but two. And both quotes come from movies that I have watched.

The first quote comes from the movie/muscial 'Rent' and it says, "No day but today." The characters in 'Rent' are, for most of the characters, living with AIDS and their choice, summed up in this quote, is to live each day with no regrets, no procrastination, and no long-term future plans but to live, and love, as if each day could be their last.

The second quote comes from one of the Star Wars movies and my favourite little green dude (Yoda for the uninformed) says, "Do, or do not. There is no try." This reminds me that I need to either do a task or not do a task, and ultimately doing the task wins out!

Day 4 - Favourite Book

Hmmm, having been an avid reader for much of my younger life, and part of my "older" life, ;-), I have plenty of books to choose from. I, of course, love reading the Bible, but that is a compilation of books that form the basis of my faith and my life.

I would have to say that my favourite fiction book is 'The Blue Castle' by L. M. Montgomery. What I like about this book is that it is about being yourself, and doing what makes you happy and feel productive, and not doing what your peers think you should do, or want you to do, and in the case of the main character, her peers were her family, but the same idea works for family and peers.

Day 3 - Favourite TV show

So, on to day 3 now and talking about my favourite television program. Well, with how busy I am right now with full-time work, part-time respite work, and completing my schooling to have my training as an Early Childhood Educator Level 2 I have found that TV has taken a back seat to, well, all that! I remember when I was younger I loved the TV show 'Sliders' as well as 'Star Trek: The Next Generation', followed by 'Star Trek: Voyager' a few years later.
Now though, I would have to say that my absolute favourite TV show is 'Bones'. I love the characters in it, as well as being intrigued by the subject matter of finding out "who-done-it" with, usually, just a person's bones left. Yeah, some of the episodes can be high on the "icky-factor" but I still enjoy it and it is the one TV show that I plan to buy the next season of DVD's, and for as long as the show continues try to watch it when I can, and buy the DVD's so I can catch up on last season as well!

And yesterday I learned that both of my sisters (Selena, and Stacy) are now also doing the daily blogging schedule, so I am looking forward to reading those as well and learning how alike and how different our tastes run! ;-)

Day 2

Well, here we are at Day 2 of my blogging experiment! Before I get into my "regularly scheduled blogging" I just want to mention that I have homemade turkey pies cooking in my oven right now, and man does my place smell good!! Yummy!

And now I'm to tell you all about my favourite movie. Well, once again I have difficulty choosing a favourite movie. I can probably name my top 3 again, and for me that is going to have to do because I just seem to have difficulty with picking one ultimate favourite!

I like "Shawshank Redemption" because there are so many great themes, quotes, and attitudes about persevering in spite of great difficulties throughout that movie!
I also like "The Princess Bride" because there are so many great quotes and ideas in that movie, and it is just generally fun!
I would have to say that my all time favourite musical movie is "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" because of the great music, the choreography, and the beautiful shots of the landscape!

Hope all is going well today for all!

Happy New Year!!

Well, I have been pretty much been ignoring any blogging for the past while, maybe my life has become busier or the novelty has worn off and I enjoyed reading other's blogs more, but I have heard of people who decided to jumpstart their blogging with a 30 day Blog Schedule. I read over the list of things on this schedule and decided that it would be a good idea for me to do this as well.

So, here is the schedule for the next 30 days, or until the end of the month:
Day 1-your favourite song
Day 2-your favourite movie
Day 3-your favourite television program
Day 4-your favourite book
Day 5-your favourite quote
Day 6- 20 of my favourite things
Day 7-a photo that makes you happy
Day 8-a photo that makes you angry/sad
Day 9-a photo you took
Day 10-a photo taken over 10 years ago of you
Day 11-a photo of you recently
Day 12-something you are OCD about
Day 13-a fictional book
Day 14-a non-fictional book
Day 15-your dream house
Day 16-a song that makes you cry (or nearly)
Day 17-an art piece (drawing, sculpture, painting, etc.)
Day 18-my wedding/future wedding/past wedding
Day 19-a talent of yours
Day 20-a hobby of yours
Day 21-a recipe
Day 22-a website
Day 23-a YouTube video
Day 24-where I live
Day 25-your day, in great detail
Day 26-your week, in great detail
Day 27-my worst habit
Day 28-what's in my handbag/purse
Day 29-hope, dreams, and plans for the next 365 days
Day 30-a dream for the future

And already I am finding the first day of the schedule hard because I love music so much, and to be able to pick one favourite song is very difficult. I had to go through my songs on my computer and listen to a few that were my top 15 to be able to choose three favourite songs. And these favourite songs I find are in different categories: spiritual, musicals, and rock. And these are my three favourite songs:
Spiritual - Blessed Be Your Name
Musical - Defying Gravity (from 'Wicked')
Rock - Don't Stop Believin' (by Journey)

Each of these songs seem to speak to me in different ways for different aspects of my life, and therefore I simply cannot choose just one favourite song!

Again, Happy New Year, and happy reading!

"I Love You!"

Tonight I had a very different experience. One of my neighbours that I casually knew and had chatted with through my time living here was moving out. She is a dear, sweet lady who happens to be mentally challenged. She loves to crochet, and there were more afternoons in a week that she would be in the lobby of the building crocheting when I came home from work then that she was not there.

Tonight, when I was saying good-bye and wishing her luck, in the lobby no less, she hugged me, and then looked me right in the eyes and said, "I Love You!"

It made me think when I got back up to my apartment. How many others in my life would say the same thing? Yeah, family, close friends, some Church family members, but how many casual aquaintances would say that they loved me? How many can I say that I love of my casual aquaintances?

On the flip side of this, soon, very soon, friends of mine will be looking at their newborn child and saying "I Love You" for the first of many, many times!

Who in our lives needs to hear, "I Love You"?
